My name is Jordanna Guthrie Daley, and I am reaching out with humility and hope as I navigate an unexpected chapter in my life.
In June 2025, I began experiencing neurological symptoms that gradually worsened over time. After months of medical consultations and investigations, I was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in October 2025.
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, disrupting communication between the brain and the rest of the body. It can impact mobility, vision, coordination, and many aspects of daily life. While there is currently no cure, early treatment can significantly slow disease progression and reduce relapses.
After careful evaluation, my medical team has recommended that I begin treatment with Rituximab, a medication administered through intravenous infusion that has been shown to be effective in controlling MS activity.
My goal is to begin treatment on April 2, 2026, as starting therapy as soon as possible is critical to slowing the progression of this disease.
The Cost of Treatment
To begin therapy, I must receive 2 grams of Rituximab over two weeks, administered as 1 gram at each infusion.
The medication is sold in 500 mg aliquots costing J$341,231.18 (~US$2,174) each.
The total medication required for the initial treatment is four aliquots, bringing the medication cost to:
J$1,364,924.72 (~US$8,694)
Additionally, the first infusion must be administered in the hospital with overnight monitoring, which is estimated to cost approximately:
J$250,000 (~US$1,592)
This brings the total immediate cost of starting treatment to approximately:
J$1,614,924.72 (? US$10,286)
Unfortunately, I do not currently have health insurance, which means these expenses must be paid entirely out of pocket.
Seeking Additional Support
I am actively applying for grants and financial assistance from both governmental and non-governmental organisations to help offset these costs. However, these processes take time, and I am trying secure the funds needed to begin treatment as soon as I can.
For this reason, I am reaching out to my community for support.
