Ghetto MisFits: Leslie Last Bwoy - 1 son, 3 fathers...
Leslie Last Bwoy is the hilarious, heart-tugging one-man comedy special from beloved Jamaican entertainer Ity Ellis – a man who was raised in the gritty embrace of Trench Town but managed somehow, to escape through education and excel through determination.
The youngest of his mother’s eight children and the last son of nine on his father’s side, Ity emerged from a colourfully chaotic childhood that included episodes of dodging stray bullets on the streets and evading stray slippers from his mother’s hand. He was the promising and talkative one in a household where his biological father’s absence was ironically loud, and his stepfather’s encouragement was soaked in alcoholic beverages and rough-around-the-edges wisdom. But standing over all was a praying, belt-wielding, academically obsessed mother - the matriarch who was relentlessly determined that her wash belly would make the newspapers, not as a criminal handcuffed to the front page, but as a scholar celebrating common entrance examination success.
This Ghetto Misfit Father’s Day stand-up comedy Special promises a penetrating presentation of the power of purpose when the stage becomes a pulpit of punchlines, as Ity takes us through a rollicking comedic memoir laced with stories of resilience and redemption. Directed by the masterful Owen Blakka Ellis, this made-for-television event blends razor-sharp comedic storytelling, timeless Jamaican cultural references, and thoughtful reflections on what it means to become the father you never had — and the man your mother prayed for.
