Western Caribbean Creole Old Testament Bible Translation Project
Give OnlineBorn out of a translation conference in 2019, which was sponsored by The Seed Company. We invited 12 Caribbean nations to participate in that conference to discern translation needs. From this conference we confirmed that there were 4 nations that had NT translation in their creoles and were desirous of having OT translations done. Following further discussions, it was agreed that we would proceed with three nations: Belize, Jamaica, & San Andres. A Cluster project was launched.
In 2020, this project commenced with a workshop in Jamaica. It was very well supported across the denominations, with representatives from the SDA Church, New Testament Church of God, Methodist Church, AGA, Baptist. Also presenter were Potential translators, storytellers, exegetes, and representatives from the theological community. At the time, funding had become an issue. The church representatives present gave their commitment that they would contribute to the project, the translators present volunteered their time, with that in place it was agreed to start the project immediately with the book of Jonah.
In October 2021, the Seed Company came onboard, as the major financial partner. This allowed for the project to retain the services of full time translators in all three nations.
Since then, these translators have completed three books: Jonah, Ruth, and Esther, and the first draft of Genesis.
Support us so we may complete the Old Testament in all three languages.
