Ruth Smith-Sutherland, Executive Director

Mrs. Smith-Sutherland joined Wycliffe Bible Translators Caribbean in 2014, following a career as an Educator when she taught English Language and Literatures in English at a prominent High school in Kingston Jamaica. She also served as the head of a Public Sector Cooperation for 15 years. She brings to this Missions Agency many years of experience in General Management, International Relation, and working with a wide cross-section of persons in many spheres.

She has served as a leader in her denomination, Missionary Church Association in Jamaica, at the local, regional, and national levels. Her major area of service has been with the Youth, holding administrative office, as well as serving in Youth Camps for many years. She currently serves as Elder, and Missions & Evangelism Director at the Eltham Missionary Church. Even prior to joining Wycliffe Caribbean, missions was an area of passion for Mrs. Smith-Sutherland, as she did short term missions trips to Cuba in the summer for seven years.

After serving as Director of Operations, she has assumed the role of Executive Director. She is currently the Project Coordinator for the Western Caribbean Creole Old Testament Project, which is perhaps one of the largest translations projects being currently undertaken - for the nations of Belize, Jamaica, and San Andrés. This project is to complete the Old Testament in the three creoles, and to produce the whole Bible for each.

Her aim and passion is living and serving to God's glory, so people of all nations might know and glorify Him.


Reslyn June Simmonds, Assistant Director - Language Development Division

Miss R. June Simmonds has been a member of Wycliffe Caribbean since 2003 and was integral in the establishment of its Language Development Division (LDD) in 2009, which she currently heads. She is a retired lecturer from Shortwood Teachers’ College where, as Head of the Modern Language Department, she worked at training Spanish teachers for twenty years. Her teaching career also includes teaching at all levels of the education system from prep school to University in Latin, Mathematics and Spanish: She has had varied and extensive training and international experience by way of a Trained Teacher Certificate, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Pedagogy, a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Counselling Psychology and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Foreign Language Education.

Her contribution to the Education system also includes her active involvement in the Spanish Teachers’ Association, the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), The Ministry of Education and The Joint Board of Teacher Education (JBTE).

She is an active member of Spanish Town Holiness Christian Church where she has served in various areas of ministry.

Miss Simmonds has a passion for the peoples of the Caribbean to recognize the importance of their mother tongue (heart language) for their personal and spiritual development and growth. Now, she also desires to see the development of the Creole languages and its acceptance amongst Caribbean peoples.

Her main goal is to bring glory to God in all that she does.
